When winter air enters a heated pressroom, relative humidity can fall — and Dominik Reisinger of Merlin Technology says paper notices.
Because paper absorbs and releases moisture, overly dry conditions can cause it to shrink and increase static buildup, contributing to sheets sticking together, misfeeds, jams, and production inconsistencies. Too much moisture creates problems, too, including expansion and creasing. Merlin typically targets about 50% relative humidity, creating a more stable environment for paper and equipment.
Merlin doesn’t make the press itself; its humidification technology helps create conditions in which presses and substrates can perform reliably. Dominik says customers value systems that work for years with minimal attention because their teams can stay focused on productive work rather than maintaining the equipment supporting it.
That behind-the-scenes reliability is what Merlin brings to printers — and another useful area of expertise it contributes to the Dscoop partner community.
