Silverpoint Press recently installed the country's first HP Indigo 100K Digital Press, and recently printed an issue of the India Scoop on the new device.
Here's why, according to a conversation with Director Daniel Muchhala:
1. The Siliverpoint team noticed a global trend, primarily in Western countries, which has percolated to India — the reduction in long-run print volumes. They've experienced heightened demand for short runs over the last few years.
2. Silverpoint was already running an HP 12K Digital Press at nearly full capacity, and felt it made sense to increase its digital short-run capacity by adding the HP 100K. The main factor here was to anticipate how much new business they would be able to acquire in order to fill the capacity of the 100K. They were confident in their ability to do so, and saw this move as a step forward.
3. The 100K allows Sliverpoint to print jobs one after the other, thanks to the four-drawer paper system and software upgrades that enable color calibration for the next job before the previous job is finished. The team prints back to back without any pauses, leading to a remarkable improvement in productivity and efficiency. (It's still too early to comment on operational costs and efficiencies because they're just beginning to emerge from the ramp-up phase.)
4. The HP and Redington teams were on site and hands-on from day one. After installation, we had certified engineers train our staff to acclimate them to new methodologies and workings of the machine. They had a minor learning curve, and achieve their goal of having the 100K up and running quickly so day-to-day activities weren't interrupted as they started printing commercial jobs.
"The installation of the 100k has enabled us to increase our digital print capacity tremendously," Daniel said. "As far as products and services go, it hasn’t had any impact since the paper and substrate specs are virtually the same as the 12K we were already using. With regard to print quality, it maintains the highest standard, which HP is globally renowned for. It comes very, very close to offset."
